This group photo of the Royal Field Artillery was taken sometime during 1914-1918, probably either in India or Mesopotamia.

Marcel is in the top row, second from right (with the moustache)

The role of a "driver" was to be responsible for 2 horses each, and there were 6 horses pulling each gun.  A battery consisted of 6 guns.  Each gun had 3 drivers and 3 gunners, although it is thought that each man was trained for both roles.  The guns were medium calibre guns and howitzers.  More information on the Royal Field Artillery.
